Tools and Resources for Black Wives Navigating Menopause and Mental Health
For Understanding Menopause
The Menopause Society (menopause.org)
This is one of the most comprehensive and clinically credible sources for menopause education. Use the Menopause Practitioner Locator tool to find a menopause-informed healthcare provider in your area. Not all doctors are trained to address menopause adequately. Finding one who specializes in it changes everything.
Black Women's Health Imperative (bwhi.org)
The Black Women's Health Imperative is the only national organization dedicated to advancing the health and wellness of black women and girls. Their resources address the specific ways that health conditions, including menopause, show up differently in black women's bodies.
The Pause Life (thepauselife.com)
A menopause resource platform built specifically for women of color. It addresses cultural nuances that mainstream menopause resources frequently miss and offers community, content, and practitioner connections for black women in this transition.
For Mental Wellness Support
Therapy for Black Girls (therapyforblackgirls.com)
Founded by Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, this platform makes mental health resources accessible for black women. It includes a therapist directory, a podcast, and a community designed specifically for black women navigating mental health challenges.
The Loveland Foundation (thelovelandfoundation.org)
The Loveland Foundation provides financial assistance to black women and girls seeking therapy. If cost has been a barrier to accessing mental health support, this organization exists to remove that barrier.
National Alliance on Mental Illness Helpline (nami.org | 1-800-950-6264)
NAMI offers free mental health information and referrals. If you or someone you love is in a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline immediately.
